Job Description:


Discovery, Inc., the new global leader in real life entertainment with powerful brands such as Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet, HGTV, Food Network, and Travel Channel, is searching for a VP, Corporate Accounting in Knoxville, TN to join our Accounting team.

The VP Corporate Accounting will lead the team responsible for closing the books and generating the consolidated balance sheet, income statement and cash flows for the Company. This individual will be responsible for ensuring that the books and records of the company are maintained in compliance with US GAAP and should be comfortable working directly with senior management of the company as well as the external auditors.






What you will be doing:



+ Responsible for the consolidation of the company's global financial statements


+ Establish a close timeline and plan to ensure that results periodic financial results are available for senior management and SEC filings


+ Managing and maintaining the systems environment / tools used for closing books and consolidation (SAP, EPM/Hyperion/Onestream, Blackline, ...)


+ Close relationship with VP Technical Accounting & SEC Reporting and team to align and reflect non-standard accounting matters in the books


+ Facilitate SEC reporting through process excellence and use of systems


+ Drive transformation and change in accounting processes and systems


+ Ensures all reports and disclosures comply with applicable government regulations, professional standards and organization policies


+ Supervises teams responsible for non-standard accounting matters


+ Reviews consolidation journal entries, eliminates intercompany transactions, and consolidated divisional and subsidiary financial accounts on a timely and accurate basis for inclusion in internal and external financial statements


+ Coordinates with accounting teams around the world


+ Creates presentations for senior management and the Board of Directors


+ Accountable for the performance of a team, sets priorities for the team to ensure task completion


+ Coordinates work activities with other company leaders


+ Make decisions guided by established policies and procedures


+ Other duties and responsibilities as needed







What you need to have:



+ BS/BA in related discipline from an accredited


+ Minimum of 10 years of experience and a strong understanding of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP), IFRS, and SOX requirements


+ Minimum of 7 years of experience in a supervisory/leadership role


+ CPA required







It's a plus if you have:



+ Big 4 public accounting background


+ Experience in leading the financial consolidation of an SEC registrant


+ Experience with Hyperion, Peoplesoft or SAP strongly preferred


+ Experience working directly with external auditors to resolve complex accounting and reporting issues


+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills


+ Strong executive presence


+ Attention to detail, accuracy and strong organizational skills


+ Capacity to juggle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment


+ Ability to meet deadlines under pressure


+ Must be able to work collaboratively with cross-functional team members at all levels


+ Experience implementing best practices that require significant innovation for improving processes by applying advanced understanding of complex functional/technical and business issues and challenges


+ Ability to anticipate resource requirements and to make adjustments based on emerging issues and priorities
